We recently acquired a huge amount of video from the original Vintage Computer Festival West (1997-2007) in addition to our own videos from last month’s reincarnated Vintage Computer Festival West XI. The first batch of old & new videos are already processed and on our YouTube channel. Many more will be posted soon! Stay tuned to this blog or to our Facebook / Twitter accounts for updates. (PS.: Some of the audio quality isn’t great. We apologize for that.)
VCF West XI: news, photos, and more
Vintage Computer Festival West XI last weekend saw more than 1,000 attendees. Huge thank-you to all who attended, exhibited, gave lectures, consigned, volunteered, helped us spread the word, and supported us overall. Special thanks to the Computer History Museum for hosting us, Hackaday and The MADE for being sponsors, and the many organizations that helped with marketing including the Living Computer Museum, ACM, Computer Science Teachers Association, and CharityBuzz.
We are processing the lecture videos and will post links here when they’re ready.
Meanwhile, there are some excellent pictures, articles, and videos already online. Hackaday covered us here and here. Organizations and people who posted include TechRepublic, TechCrunch, San Jose Mercury News, SD Times, Mike Brutman, Bill Degnan, and Jim Stephens. Jim also posted video as did Marc Verdiell. Let us know if you’d like to share your own media of the show!
VCF West logo revealed
Vintage Computer Festival West hasn’t happened since 2007, so we decided to represent next month’s event with a phoenix rising from the magic smoke of a sacrificial vintage computer. 🙂 It’s awesome!
See the Celebration Apple-1 at VCF West
Our friends at CharityBuzz are auctioning what may be the rarest Apple-1 computer in existence. This is an amazing find! It will be on display at Vintage Computer Festival West next month. Come see it for yourself.
Was MS-DOS code copied from CP/M?
Bob Zeidman, a prominent forensic software engineer, found in 2012 that Microsoft’s early versions of MS-DOS did not contain any CP/M code. Microsoft then released DOS source in 2014. Zeidman decided to look again and will announce his findings at Vintage Computer Festival West. Discuss it here.
VCF West has 30 exhibits
There are 30 registered exhibits for next month’s Vintage Computer Festival West XI. Exhibit registration is full!

Apple II and Sol-20 put the fun in fundraising!
We’re doing some fundraising. We are auctioning a fully working and Woz-autographed straight Apple II and a fully working and Felsenstein-autographed Processor Tech Sol-20. Both computers are SUPER-CLEAN (full details in the listings; monitors not included). Remember, we’re a non-profit and this is a great cause!
Watch the Kenbak lecture (and bonus material!) from VCF East XI
Kenbak-1 inventor John Blankenbaker lectured at VCF East XI last month. Click here to watch it online. Bonus material — here’s a video of John examining the very Kenbak that we displayed at the show.
Video of the lectures by Ted Nelson and Stewart Cheifet will be available this summer.
