Consignment FAQ

Click here for new consignment system

Consignment buyers: We are obligated to start charging sales tax this year of 9.13% (Santa Clara County).

Consignment load-in is:

Thursday from 5PM until 10PM.
Friday until 11AM
Saturday until 10AM

Consignment will close for sales at 3:30PM on Saturday for payout.

The consignment area allows people to buy and sell vintage computer related items during our VCF shows. Here is the quick version on how it works:

We have a new consignment system!

Your submitted items populate our point-of-sale inventory as well as generate barcode labels for you to apply to your merchandise upon arrival. You have the option of printing your own labels or print them out when you arrive.

DROP OFF:

Consignment items may be dropped off on Thursday during load-in or on the mornings of the show before Consignment opens. Additional items may be brought in during the day, but we cannot guarantee that those items will be entered into the Point of Sale system immediately.

All consignment items must be brought in via the loading dock and the nearby freight elevator.  Please do not use the CHM public entrance or the CHM elevator to load in any items.

We also ask that you refrain from bringing large items in during show hours as carts can be a danger and a distraction to VCF visitors.

HOURS FOR CONSIGNMENT:

Friday August 2nd, 2024, 11:00am until 5:00pm

Saturday, August 3rd, 2024, 10:00am until 3:30pm

Consignment will be located at the top of the stairs from the CHM entrance in the space beyond the classrooms. We will open up one or both classrooms for overflow if that space fills up.

Visitors to the show (other exhibitors included) will often stop by the consignment area looking for treasure. A VCF volunteer will handle the sales process. If your treasure sells, then VCF will keep 18% of the proceeds and pay the rest to you. The 18% commission goes to supporting VCF activities.

  • If there is a free pile, then you must let one of the volunteer staff know that you are putting it there and take home the item(s) by the end of the show.
  • At the end of the show:
    • If your treasure sells we’ll pay you.
    • If your treasure does not sell you have to pick it up and take it home.

You must collect all of your unsold items on Saturday afternoon at 4:00pm sharp. Failure to pick up your items may result in VCF withholding payment for other items sold.

Thank you!

Tips for successful consignment sales:

  • This year the item labels we print for you will include price, so separate labeling with item price is not required.
  • Please indicate if the item is working or not, and if there are any known flaws. Known working items will sell for more.
  • Consignment items are sold on an AS-IS basis, and the buyers will be made aware of that.
  • Please price your items reasonably; if you price something too high you will probably have to carry it home.
  • If you need to change the price you, then *must* inform the consignment staff about any prices changes. A new label will be printed for the item(s).
  • You are expected to be able to lift all of your items yourself without help. Don’t bring items that you can’t move yourself.

Tips for successful buying:

  • If you make a pricing deal please contact the seller and have them change the price in the system. They should change the price in the seller’s account.
