WHAT’S CONSIGNMENT ALL ABOUT?

The consignment area at VCF-East isn’t just a place to buy and sell—it’s where vintage computing comes alive! Here’s what you need to know:

  • A Marketplace of History:
    • This is your chance to explore and trade computing relics in a bustling, retail-style environment.
    • The space has grown dramatically, doubling in size from last year, making it a treasure trove for every enthusiast.
    • Selling stuff at VCF Consignment is open to everyone. Many VCF attendees helped pay for their entire VCF trip by utilizing the Consignment services to sell vintage computing goods from their own collections.
  • Sell with Ease:
    • Sellers simply log their items into the Consignment System (check the FAQ for details).
    • Volunteers run a smooth point-of-sale system to handle transactions quickly and hassle-free.
  • Support the Mission:
    • When your item sells, VCF keeps 18% of the sale to fund its museum, outreach events, and educational programs, ensuring the history of computing stays alive.
    • The remaining proceeds go straight to you, helping your vintage treasures find a new home.
  • Give Back with the Free Pile:
    • Donate useful items for free—no need to register them in the Consignment System.
    • If unclaimed by the show’s end, you’ll need to take them home.
    • If moving an item of yours from the sales area to the Free Pile, let a Consignment volunteer know, so they can remove it from inventory, and make sure you collect it later if no one picks it up.
  • Wrap-Up at the End:
    • Sold items mean money for you.
    • Unsold items head back home.
    • Consignment sellers get paid their net share of sales at the end of the event.

The consignment area has flourished thanks to the dedication of sellers who fill the shelves with incredible finds and the eager curiosity of buyers looking to acquire their next piece of history. It’s more than just a marketplace—it’s a living exhibit of vintage computing, powered by the passion of our community. Whether you’re a collector, seller, or simply a fan, the consignment area is where memories meet modern-day enthusiasm!

DROP-OFF SCHEDULE

  • Friday, April 4, 2025: 5:00 PM – 10:00 PM If you’re unable to drop off during this time, items can also be dropped off during the consignment open hours listed below.

CONSIGNMENT HOURS

  • Saturday, April 5, 2025: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM Closed for Lunch: 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM
  • Sunday, April 6, 2025: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

  • Pre-Entry Requirement: All items must be entered into the Consignment System before you bring them to the consignment area. The entry process is simple and user-friendly—you can even do it on your mobile phone! Volunteers will not be able to input items into the system on your behalf, as they’ll be busy preparing the consignment room and assisting with seller questions.
  • Labeling: Barcode labels for your items can be printed in advance or generated on-site upon arrival.
  • Unsold Items: All unsold items must be collected on Sunday between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM. Items left behind after this time may result in VCF withholding payment for sold items and could disqualify you from consigning at future events.

TIPS FOR SUCCESSFUL CONSIGNMENT SALES

  • Labeling:
    • Item labels generated by the consignment system will include pricing, so you don’t need separate price tags.
    • Clearly indicate whether the item is working or has known flaws. Working items tend to sell faster and for more.
  • Pricing:
    • Be realistic when setting prices—overpriced items are more likely to end up coming back home with you.
    • If you need to adjust the price, inform the consignment staff so they can generate a new label.
  • Item Handling:
    • You are responsible for moving your items without assistance, so please only bring items you can handle on your own.
  • Sales Policy:
    • Items are sold on an AS-IS basis, and buyers are informed of this upfront.

TIPS FOR SUCCESSFUL BUYING

  • If you negotiate a price change, contact the seller and ensure they update it in the consignment system under their account. Items will only be sold at the price listed in the point-of-sale system.
